CaseTalk Modeler is the centerpiece of our product line. Modeler enables you to precisely capture the knowledge of the domain expert by using a method known as fact-oriented modeling. This is a conceptual method free of any technological bias, capturing knowledge in natural language format.
While no technical bias exists in the method, the Modeler is capable of generating technological artifacts that enable users to verbally validate using natural language every step of the way. This unites the I (Information) and T (Technology). The parties involved on the business side can now both specify and validate the information model, without having to sacrifice using their own language.
CaseTalk is built upon the elegant and substantial theory known as Fully Communication Oriented Information Modeling (FCO-IM). FCO-IM is the most prominent successor of the well-known method NIAM. Originally, NIAM presented a novel way of database modeling but eventually evolved as a verbal method of generic information modeling. For more information you can read more in our collection of various articles.
The ERD, UML and high level Concept Maps are generated on the fly while you drag information elements on the FCO-IM Diagram.
The CaseTalk Viewer reduces the need for additional third-party tools while still closing the gap between Fact Oriented Models, ER and UML. Using Viewer, users can simply open an existing CaseTalk Modeler file and immediately start assembling ER and UML diagrams using drag and drop.
Below, are examples of how Viewer works. There is no need for manual labor when setting up the elements in the diagram; no manual drawings or defining tables, columns, relationships, and so forth are all derived from the models already made in CaseTalk Modeler.
This product will be marked End of Life with the new Diagram Generator embedded in the CaseTalk Modeler. Every assembled Diagram will but used for the diagram generator which simultaniously generate ERD, UML Class Diagram and Concept Map. (Java Required).
CaseTalk Modeler Enterprise Edition includes the Manager and enhances the suite with versioning models for multiple users.
By using the CaseTalk Manager, users can check-in and check-out their models from their central database. Permission is easily set up for every user registered with a role in the process of modeling. Manager requires no special DBA and is set up to support all users.
In the central database, models are stored as taggable versions for future reference, in addition to being able to be exchanged among users. The CaseTalk Manage product is available for corporate users in need of precise information model management.
Manager navigates, reports on discrepancies, and shows impact analysis on tracked model interdependencies.
Organizations feel the increasing need to share and publish their knowledge amongst their employees in order to come to a shared understanding. The information captured in the Fact Oriented Models is a great resource to publish glossaries, ontologies, and taxonomies of the organization. Sharing all this information, all definitions and publishing this through the portal services the Single Point of Definition.
The Portal presents these in a way that allows technical and non-technical staff to understand the business knowledge; relaying it back to the domain experts makes the knowledge invaluable. All stakeholders in the organization are now able to tap into their published and well-documented wealth of knowledge.
Detailed information on terms, attributes, relations, descriptions, examples, diagram references, etc.. All linked, all browsable, fully indexed for easy search.
A full taxonomy of super- and subtypes, color coded according to namespace origin, and navigatable.
Information model re-use using a sankey diagram, showing model linking from version to version. This allows federated information models and re-use of them.
Every technical artifact generated by CaseTalk, which is part of the Information Model management, is immediately available for downloading to provide bootstrap functionality for projects and system implementations.
The use case of ProRail presents the information architecure combining CaseTalk Modeler, -Manager and -Portal.
CaseTalk is built around a generic repository, containing both conceptual and transformed models. By leveraging this generic repository, CaseTalk can reverse and forward engineer technological artifacts.
Over time, various plug-ins were added, supporting a range of artifacts including various database scripts, XML-schema definitions, XML exports, and much more. With the ever-quickly evolving technology, new file formats and updated standards are published continuously, and new tools become available all the time. In that aspect, CaseTalk will always be incomplete, but at the same time, CaseTalk is fully equipped to adapt.
In the case you are missing functionality for something old or new, please contact us for a free inquiry. We are confident in being able to add a new transformation or extension to fit your needs.
