License keys

The following steps are followed to find the license key for your installation.

  • Check your roaming profile folder for the file casetalk.key.
  • If the application is started in portable mode it'll search for the local {appdata} folder for a default key file.
  • If still not found, it attempts to use a key file from the folder where casetalk.exe itself resides.
  • If that file does not exist either, it'll check the Windows registry for an old license.

If all the above fail, or the found license is invalid, a new license will be requested. The newly entered license can be stored in two locations:

  • Your roaming profile folder
  • Your {appdata} folder if started as a portable app, and not also a readonly of shared folder.
