| Summary | 0005951: CaseTalk does not start on a machine without the Edge WebView2 runtime | ||||
| Description | On a machine where the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is not installed - a plain Windows Server image, for instance - CaseTalk closes itself during startup instead of opening its main window. There is no message, and nothing that identifies the browser component as the cause. The built-in browser is used for help pages, documentation and generated reports, so the component is prepared while the application starts. It should be possible to work without it: everything else in CaseTalk does not need a browser, and a missing runtime is something the user can install afterwards if they want those pages. Expected: CaseTalk starts. Any screen that would have shown a web page says instead that the runtime is missing, and where to get it. | ||||

Fixed in 15.0.0.57607. CaseTalk now checks for the WebView2 runtime before trying to start it, and starts normally when it is not there. Any screen that would have shown a web page - help, documentation, generated reports - shows a panel naming the missing runtime and the address to download it from. Installing the runtime and restarting CaseTalk brings the browser back with no further action. |
