OpenMetadata is an open-source metadata platform that catalogs an organisation's data assets (databases, schemas, tables, columns) together with a business glossary, classifications/tags, ownership, lineage and data-quality information. Unlike a file-based interchange format, it is a running server: integration happens through its REST API and ingestion connectors rather than by exchanging a document.

CaseTalk should evaluate connecting to OpenMetadata as a source and target for model information, aligned with the existing catalog import/export capability:

• Import: read structure (databases, schemas, tables, columns, keys and relationships) from an OpenMetadata server and build or enrich a CaseTalk model, reusing the same catalog-based loading path already used for other sources. Where OpenMetadata carries descriptions, glossary terms and tags, bring those across as model annotations.
• Export / publish: push a CaseTalk conceptual model to OpenMetadata - in particular its business vocabulary - so a CaseTalk model can act as the governed source of business semantics that feeds the platform, including its glossary.
• Assess how OpenMetadata's glossary, classifications and lineage map onto CaseTalk concepts, and where they have no equivalent today.
• Judge effort and value of read-only import versus a two-way (publish) integration.

Outcome: a recommendation on whether and how to support OpenMetadata, and a proposed scope for a first implementation.

This is a companion investigation to the OSI interchange-format study; the two share a common need for a richer annotation/glossary layer in the catalog format.
